Welcome to the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium Information Portal, a division of the Louisiana Board of Regents.
Since 1979, LUMCON has provided unparalleled opportunities in marine science and education to the research community and public alike. Anchored by a first-rate marine laboratory, the DeFelice Marine Center, LUMCON is embedded in Louisiana’s dynamic wetland environment and conveniently located on a gateway to the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. From this facility, LUMCON operates a world-class fleet of research vessels unmatched in the Gulf of Mexico. However, LUMCON is more than a marine laboratory. LUMCON as a consortium is a statewide academic endeavor to focus and strengthen the effectiveness of foundational marine science needed to address the environmental and socioeconomic challenges facing Louisiana and the nation.
Connecting universities through stronger partnerships
LUMCON serves as a conduit for building networks in marine research and education. LUMCON connects Louisiana research communities by providing opportunities for teams to explore opportunities, combine expertise, and build career-long collaborations.
Transforming the fields of marine science and conservation in impactful, meaningful, and profound ways
LUMCON is a hub for Louisiana marine science through its dynamic and community-oriented research center. LUMCON provides a variety of tools from research vessels, marine technology, state of the art facilities, and proximity to a vast array of coastal and marine environments.
Enriching the community through education and outreach initiatives
From kindergarten to graduate programs, LUMCON provides a broad set of opportunities for students at all stages to engage in marine science and acquire new skills. LUMCON seeks to provide opportunities for all to experience scientific research and Louisiana’s diverse marine ecosystems first hand.
