This web page has been developed to provide district and postsecondary personnel with quick access to national and Louisiana resources that can support their efforts to implement the Common Core State Standards, PARCC assessments, and Compass state teacher evaluation system. The concept for a “One Stop Shop” that requires only one or two clicks at a computer to reach CCSS, PARCC, and Compass resources was developed by members of Louisiana’s 2011-12 Blue Ribbon Commission for Educational Excellence. Educators on the Commission identified types of information that should be included and experts from across the State will help to identify well-developed cost-free resources to be added to the “One Stop Shop.”
The integration of CCSS, PARCC, and Compass into PK-12 and postsecondary education is a joint effort across state agencies. The Louisiana Commissioner of Higher Education, Louisiana State Superintendent, and four Louisiana University System Presidents provided written support for higher education and K-12 education to work collaboratively with 23 states to create new English and mathematics assessments for elementary, middle, and high school students that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards through the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). This has resulted in federal funding being awarded to Achieve to facilitate the development and use of new PARCC English and mathematics assessments by 2014.
PARCC has provided the Board of Regents with a subgrant in the amount of $120,000 to support the work over a 4 year time period. The funds are being used to support administrative costs and cover travel and meeting costs for university/college leaders, faculty and K-12 educators to work collaboratively to address the new standards and assessments.
In addition, the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors have provided the Louisiana Board of Regents with $600,000 to support work at the campus level over a 3-year time period. The funds are primarily being used to support meeting and travel costs at the State and campus levels for university/college leaders, faculty, and K-12 educators to participate in PARCC Campus Leadership Team activities pertaining to CCSS, PARCC, and Compass. A portion of those funds have been used to hire an intern to create and maintain the “One Stop Shop.” This site also provides a direct link to information about major reforms that occurred from 1999-2011 to create more effective teacher preparation programs (Teacher Preparation Transformation 1.0) and the work that is now taking place to identify new needs to ensure that students taught by new teachers will be college and career-ready (Teacher Preparation Transformation 2.0).
