Regent K. Samer Shamieh, MD

K. Samer Shamieh, MD, is a minimally invasive spine surgeon, board-certified and fellowship-trained. He serves as chairman of the board and chief medical officer of AVALA Hospital in Covington, which he founded in 2017. AVALA is a physician-led hospital system that utilizes cutting-edge technology in a spa-like environment. He is currently the appointed legislative chairman and sits on the board of directors of the Louisiana Orthopedic Association. He is on the Political Engagement Committee for the North American Spine Society and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and Louisiana State Medical Society.

A native of Lake Charles, Dr. Shamieh played tennis for the nationally top-ranked LSU Tigers and graduated from LSU with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2000. He completed medical school and Orthopaedic residency at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.

When he is not practicing medicine, Dr. Shamieh enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids and enjoying Louisiana’s sportsman’s paradise. Hunting, fishing, and golf are at the top of his to-do list.

He represents the 1st Congressional District and will complete his term of service on December 31, 2029.
